How it's Done
Using the smallest of needles, a small amount of Botox is injected into several points along each of the muscles that contribute to your specific wrinkles. Gentle pressure is held over the area for a couple of minutes and then the treatment ends. Treating the forehead, the area between the brow and around the eyes takes about 10 minutes.
The most common post-treatment finding is a small bruise that usually resolves very quickly. Patients can develop a rash and swelling at the injection site. Non-treated muscles may be affected but this is very rare. There is an extremely rare allergic reaction to the medication. Do not use Botox cosmetic if you have an infection where Botox cosmetic will be injected, are allergic to any of the ingredients in Botox cosmetic, are pregnant or think you might be pregnant. And of course, consult with Dr. Larsen before starting treatment if you have any diseases affecting your nerves and/or muscles.
Following your Botox injections you may notice a small fine bump and a little redness. This reaction to the injection usually resolves in 30 minutes to one hour. The following morning if you rub your fingers over the areas that were injected you may find a little sore spot. Strenuous activity should be limited for the first 48 hours following your injections. Most patients have a Botox treatment and return to their daily activities right after they leave the office.
- The individual injection sites will be slightly tender to touch for 2-3 days.
- There may be a small bruise associated with one of the injection sites, about one percent in Dr Larsen's practice.
- Patients usually return to everyday activities immediately after the procedure.
- Patients are advised not to participate in strenuous activity for 48 hours.
