We are an Atlanta skin resurfacing specialist. Chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing all achieve results in basically the same way. Layers of your skin are removed and, as the healing process progresses, a new, healthier-looking skin emerges. What differentiates the various resurfacing methods is the way in which the skin's layers are removed. Chemical peels involve the application of a caustic solution, dermabrasion utilizes high-speed rotary wheel, and laser resurfacing uses a laser beam. You may have certain characteristics that make you a better candidate for one technique rather than another.

Skin resurfacing candidates have one or more of the following conditions: wrinkled or sun-damaged facial skin; vertical wrinkles around your mouth, such as those that cause lipstick "bleed;" "crow's feet" lines around your eyes and perhaps some skin laxity in your lower eyelid area; fine wrinkling of your upper eyelids; brown spots or blotchy skin coloring; certain precancerous skin growths; acne or chicken pox scars; or superficial facial scars from a past injury.

Our more popular skin resurfacing procedures include the Obagi Blue Peel and Derma Peel.

The Obagi Blue Peel is a one to four step application of blue solution mixed with TCA (Trichloracetic Acid). Your doctor will determine how many peels are necessary to achieve the desired result. In most cases the procedure takes 25-30 minutes. These applications will lead to the removal of thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin. Layers of dead skin cells exfoliate and are replaced by healthier ones allowing the skin's own clarity and tightness to resurface.

The Obagi Blue Peel represents a breakthrough and significant improvement in skin rejuvenation. Using slow acting TCA, instead of glycolic acid, the Obagi Blue Peel enables the physician to control the peel process and its depth. The process is tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, laxity or pigmentation problems. The procedure can be performed on the neck, chest, hands, back, arms and legs using the same technique as for the face.

At each level, you will experience a mild burning sensation that lasts 2 to 3 minutes. The doctor may use an electric fan to minimize this sensation. A bluish tint remains on your skin: it will usually wash off in 12 to 24 hours. Your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days and should be healed in an average of 7 to 10 days. This peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle.

Derma Peel is a revolutionary new skin restoration process, commonly referred to as "the lunchtime peel" because the procedure takes only minutes to perform and most people can return to work immediately. Used at exclusive European spas for over five years, this unique skin rejuvenation technique has recently received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States.

The Derma Peel procedure uses highly controlled vacuum and pressure to move microscopically abrasive crystals over the surface of the skin. This action causes little or no discomfort while it gently removes the outer layer of the skin. By repeating this process over the course of several weeks or months, the younger, softer skin moves to the surface, revealing significant textural and color changes.

Advantages of Derma Peel:

* little or no discomfort
* no surgery or anesthesia
* no recovery period
* patients return to activities immediately
* little or no risk due to potential side-effects
* reasonably priced
* treats all skin types

Derma Peel is performed in a sterile environment. Treatment time varies from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the severity of the skin problem(s) and the area being treated. Most patients require three to ten treatments. We can outline a treatment plan that is best for you.

Because the procedure is non-invasive and non-surgical, you may return to your normal activities immediately. You will notice an immediate improvement in the treated area and your skin will be softer, smoother, and appear younger looking. These desirable effects will increase over the course of the treatment series.
