Procedures for Weight Loss Patients
At Buckhead Plastic Surgery of Atlanta, we have been in the forefront of weight loss surgical procedures for more than 10 years. We have perfected everything from the body lift or belt lipectomy to a thighplasty or arm lift and a procedure known as the Thoracobrachiomastopexy in which the arms, the chest, and the breasts are all lifted and tightened with one single procedure.
As you become more fit, continue to lose weight and have more energy, you begin to feel better. Above all, your self-esteem and mental attitude improve. Stick to the rules of maintaining your healthy lifestyle with sufficient exercise and then consider your options for body contouring and improvements on the curves and bulges that are beyond your control. Everyone has heard about liposuction, tummy tucks and facelifts. Weight loss surgical procedures go well beyond these procedures and can tighten everything from your neck line to your ankles, restore a flattened buttocks, tighten your thighs and give you that body you deserve.
Weight loss surgical procedures fall into three generalized categories.
- Liposuction procedures will eliminate disproportionate fat stored in select areas of your body, effectively removing them. Liposuction, however, doesn't necessarily address the loose skin.
- Excisional techniques address excess fatty tissue as well as the excess skin and sagging resulting from greater amounts of weight loss.
- Fat grafting techniques (and you may wonder why you might want a fat graft when you've just lost all that weight) can help restore contour and fullness to areas such as your buttocks that have lost the fullness you desire.
The combination of these three surgical techniques – liposuction, excisional, and fat grafting – are the backbone of our weight-loss procedures.
In the typical patient who has lost 20-30 pounds and wants a little additional contouring, procedures such as liposuction may be all that is needed. As weight loss increases and the amount of excess skin increases, additional procedures such as the abdominoplasty or tummy tuck may be added. If weight loss is massive and there is excess skin of the arms, chest, back, buttocks, abdomen and legs, multiple staged procedures are required. Patients typically start with their abdomen and waistline which is usually a Beltlipectomy or body lift followed by breasts/chests and arms which could be as extensive as the Thoracobrachiomastopexy (tightens the arms chest and breasts) and finally may end with liposuction and a thigh lift to tighten the loose skin of the legs.
These are considered major procedures. We therefore recommend doing one area of the body at a time, breaking up a total body makeover into three and sometimes four separate surgeries.
