Many people we see at our Atlanta practice consider liposuction because they're in good shape but just can't do anything about those extra bulges that resist diet and exercise. Whether you're stuck with "love handles" or a little extra fat in your back or thighs, Dr. Larsen performs liposuction at Buckhead Plastic Surgery in Atlanta to sculpt and contour the proportional body shape you want.
Dr. Larsen's experience and consistent results attract liposuction patients from Decatur and Marietta, in addition to other areas surrounding Atlanta. Request a consultation using the online form, or give our office a call at (404) 367-9005 to schedule an appointment.
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is safer and more effective than ever for patients who are within 25 to 30% of their ideal body weight, in good overall health, and who are physically active. A good liposuction candidate also has skin that retains most of its elasticity and who has maintained a stable weight for the previous 1 or 2 years.
Dr. Larsen targets treatment areas with liposuction, known clinically as suction-assisted lipectomy, using a thin, hollow tube called a cannula to remove the excess fat from beneath the skin. Liposuction cannulas typically vary in size from 2mm to up to 8mm in diameter. The smaller the cannula, the finer the area that can be treated.
The procedure begins with Dr. Larsen making very small, well-hidden incisions and then inserting the cannula that is attached to a machine that suctions excess fatty tissue from your body. As an experienced plastic surgeon specializing in liposuction, Dr. Larsen not only removes the fat but creates smooth, natural-looking contours in the treatment areas.
The price of cosmetic surgery varies based on several factors. The geographic location of the practice you choose, the surgeon's training, experience, and qualifications, and the techniques used can all influence the final cost of your surgery. At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, the price of liposuction starts at $1,500. Dr. Larsen is committed to making cosmetic plastic surgery accessible to people from all walks of life, and partners with financing companies to help qualified patients pay for their surgeries.
It's important to remember that even though liposuction is an elective procedure, it requires a well-trained, experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon to get consistently excellent results. Any doctor, regardless of his or her specialty, training or surgical prowess can purchase liposuction equipment and perform this procedure. Above all else, protect your body and your life by choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Larsen for all forms of liposuction of the face and body.
Liposuction causes minimal to moderate discomfort for most patients. This discomfort is usually well-controlled by pain medication prescribed by Dr. Larsen. Patients experience most of their discomfort when they are changing positions during the first 3 to 4 days. When the patient is sitting, lying down or standing and walking, there is usually a minimal amount of discomfort.
Getting up and sitting down, however, will take some time for you to get back to normal comfort levels. Swelling after surgery is common, including the face, hands and feet. This edema usually starts resolving within 3 to 5 days. Wearing a compression garment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the first 6 weeks after surgery is essential to ensure you get the best results possible. Patients usually return to work about 5 days after surgery; however, this depends on the amount and areas treated.
Although some people see immediate results following liposuction, most of the results start to appear more gradually as swelling and bruising subside over the first 3 to 6 weeks. Your shape will likely continue to improve over the next 6 months to a year. During this time, safeguard your results with a healthy, active lifestyle, along with diet and exercise. Limit sun exposure and alcohol consumption. Maintaining these essentials will help to keep your new shape for years to come.
"I have been a patient at BPS for going on 5 years and have always had wonderful experiences — have had breast augmentation, BOTOX, Juvéderm, facials, peels, lip tattooing and most recently liposuction and has always been a great experience A+."*
